Award-Winning Universities
Aberdeen has two universities.
The University of Aberdeen
(UA) was founded in 1495 and offers over 630 first
degree courses attended by some 13,000 full-time
students. The Robert
Gordon University (RGU) was awarded university
status in 1992, has some 9,000 students studying
over 145 courses at all levels.
Together these two institutions
represent a unique combination of academic and
research assets. The undoubted strengths of the
University of Aberdeen in medical and life sciences
research are complemented by RGU’s links
with industry and both their track record in innovation.
Significantly, both universities
have also established operations which are dedicated
to the commercialisation of their ideas and research
through collaboration with industry. For more
information on these see the following links and
the section on Licensing
Opportunities.
